Snow and ice aside, the cancellation of Martin Luther King, Jr. events doesn’t freeze the importance of his civil rights message.
Especially for one gender.
Through Genesis Express, George Radford said Monday’s celebration in Trigg County would have centered around the idea of “101 Men” — or the concept of essentially stepping to the plate when most needed.
Furthermore, Radford said Randolph Crenshaw and Bobby Acree, both of the not-for-profit organization, were going to speak on King’s legacy — while trying to make it personal for every man in Trigg County to rise above one’s station and get active in the community.
Through his written and spoken works, King asked for men and women to gather peacefully, and to show solidarity for civil rights.
Several of his most prominent quotes, however, centered around the faults of man.
For example:
— “Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.”
— “Any religion that professes to be concerned about the souls of men and is not concerned about the slums that damn them, the economic conditions that strangle them and the social conditions that cripple them is a spiritually moribund religion awaiting burial.”
— And “A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on the installment plan.”
Radford noted that while Trigg County and its people are imperfect, he argued it’s one of the best places to live in the country — based on the community and its ability to come together and share love.
However, he also noted this can be taken for granted.
Radford said this message will likely be delivered in full detail next year.
