Trial Date Scheduled In Jones Street Murder Case

During a pretrial conference Wednesday morning, a trial date was scheduled for one of three men charged in connection to the 2021 murder of Adrian Acree.

Cortez Hairston, Jr. is charged in Acree’s death after a shooting on Jones Street, near the intersection of Sharpe Street on October 23, 2021 after his body was found in the roadway.

At Wednesday morning’s hearing, Hairston, his defense attorneys Ted Shouse and Rob Eggert and special prosecutor Zac Greenwell appeared before Judge John Atkins where Eggert argued for Hairston’s $750,000 bond be reduced due to the delay being the fault of the previous Commonwealth’s Attorney.

click to download audioAfter hearing the arguments for bond reduction and a request by Baker to set a trial date, Judge Atkins scheduled a week-long trial to begin on October 23rd. He advised the attorneys that he would take the bond reduction motion under advisement.

Two co-defendants in this case, Jaila Sherrod and Dekorian Daniel, both of Hopkinsville, were arrested by Hopkinsville police in April 5, 2022 and charged with complicity to murder as reported planners of Acree’s death. Hairston, Jr. turned himself in to the police on April 14, 2022 and was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
