Grand Jury Returns Indictments On Assault And Other Charges

The Christian County Grand Jury returned several indictments Friday including on charges of assault and wanton endangerment.

31-year old Devon Montrell Poindexter, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on charges of first-degree assault, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, first-degree wanton endangerment and tampering with physical.

Poindexter is accused of shooting and injuring 34-year old Benjamin Murray on Walnut Street in Hopkinsville on May 14th. Murray was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Health where he was treated for his injuries.

A true bill was returned on 42-year old Corey Middleton, of Clarksville, Tennessee, on charges of leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance, first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, first-degree wanton endangerment, driving on a DUI suspended license – in 5 years with aggravator, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance – first offense with aggravator.

The charges stem from July 13, 2023 when Middleton was involved in a pursuit with Hopkinsville Police that started after officers received a report of him driving through a yard near the Dollar General on East 9th Street.

59-year old Ann Medina, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on charges of theft by unlawful taking or disposition over $10,000 but under $1 million, and knowingly abuse/neglect of an adult by person.

Medina is accused of taking over $30,000 from a woman from December 22nd to July 2nd. Hopkinsville Police said the victim was keeping the money in a shoe box while Medina, who was the woman’s caregiver, made excuses to not take her to the bank to deposit the money.

And the grand jury returned a true bill on 39-year old John Foster, of Hopkinsville, on charges of first-degree strangulation, second-degree assault, and first-degree unlawful imprisonment.

The charges stem from July 7, 2023 when Foster is accused of severely assaulting his wife on East 2nd Street. Hopkinsville Police reported that Foster struck his wife in the head with his fist multiple times, dragged her into the home by her hair, hit her head on a screen door, then forcefully took her phone and would not allow her to leave. During the altercation, he allegedly grabbed her by the throat, restricting her breathing, and causing her throat to swell.

Police said Foster’s wife was taken to the hospital by private vehicle due to having difficulties remembering the attack and answering simple questions.
