A “Going Home” celebration for 73-year-old Bro. Garry Wayne Thomas, of Cadiz, will be from 3-5 PM Sunday at King’s Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at a later date in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include:
Wife of 55 years, Junia Ruth Thomas, of Cadiz;
Two sons, Marc (Tracy) Thomas, of Hopkinsville, and Jamey (April) Thomas, of Cadiz;
A sister, Kathy (Phillip) Houchens, of Hopkinsville;
And five grandchildren.
Thomas was born March 19, 1950, in Hopkinsville, to the late Jasper Garnet Thomas and Adaline Wallace Thomas.
He died Wednesday, August 9, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
He started his ministry at age 12 with the Kentucky Gospel Singers. He played the piano, was a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and was ordained into the ministry at Canton Baptist Church.
He later retired as minister from Lafayette Baptist Church.
Thomas also was the youngest person to be elected to the Cadiz City Council, an insurance salesman with Metropolitan Life, and the previous owner of Cadiz Body Shop.
He was an organ and tissue donor, so that he could continue to serve others.
