John Thomas, 79, of Hopkinsville

John Ward Thomas, a beloved member of the Hopkinsville community, left our physical world at 2:16 pm Monday, November 6, 2023, at Saint Thomas Hospital West in Nashville, TN.

A native of Trigg County, John was born on July 16, 1944, as the third child of the late Milton Ward “Chuck” Thomas and Martha Crawford Thomas. He owned and operated Honda of Hopkinsville for 39 years before retiring. Realizing he needed more excitement than mowing his grass and waxing his car could afford, John went back to work as a salesman at Sisk Auto Mall where he continued to serve his community with the same level of integrity and attention that he always strived to provide. John also served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cadiz, a bank his father helped found in 1970. He was a longtime member of the Hopkinsville Elks Lodge for which he was delighted to serve as Exalted Ruler and where he continued to be delighted to be served a Maker’s and Sprite on occasion. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He enjoyed traveling — exploring various locales stateside and abroad on 2 wheels, 4 wheels, by air, or by water. John was truly the captain of his own ship, namely the Just’in Summer. And above all else, he loved spending time with his family, his friends, and a succession of fur babies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Roger Thomas.

Survivors include his wife Stacy Winders; son Justin (Allie) Thomas of Pembroke, KY; daughter Elizabeth (Aaron) Summer Thomas of Nashville, TN; sister Gail Hardy of Mt. Juliet, TN; brothers Will (Gena) Thomas of Kuttawa, KY and Tim Thomas of Paducah, KY and his especially adored grandchildren Forrest, Gunner, Piper, Ella, and Raylan.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Green Hill Memorial Gardens with Rev. Kenny Rogers officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 pm at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home who are honored to assist the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund (https://www.kidneyfund.org).
