Craig Richardson announced Friday that he has filed his official declaration of candidacy to be on the ballot as a Republican to run for the 3rd District State Senate seat in the May 2024 Primary Election.
Senator Whitney Westerfield, who has held the seat since 2013, announced during the final day of the legislature’s general session this past spring that he would not seek re-election. On March 30, Richardson reportedly announced his decision to run for that seat. He says in a release that he filed his initial statement of intent in March of 2023 to begin the process so he could formally organize a campaign.
Richardson’s campaign says the filing of his Declaration of Candidacy is yet another step to ensuring he will be on the ballot for the May 2024 Primary.
In a statement, Richardson said he has been campaigning and meeting with the people of Caldwell, Christian and Muhlenberg counties over the past 7 and a half months. He added that it has been an immense pleasure and he is grateful for the support so many have given. Richardson indicated that he has been working hard to show up, be present, listen, and know the issues that matter most to western Kentucky.
