Donald Eugene Whitson, age 79, of Crofton, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at his home of natural causes surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with burial to follow at Haleys Mill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mr. Whitson was born in Dayton, Ohio, on September 27, 1944, the son of the late Walter “Red” and Kathryn Kirkendall Whitson. Donald worked at Phelps Dodge and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a veteran in the US Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Manire Whitson in 1989; his granddaughter, Sierra Whitson; and his brother, Billy Whitson.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Carol Fisher Whitson of Crofton, his children, Daniel Whitson and his wife Elsa of Hopkinsville, KY, Dawn Pope and her husband Dwain of Gold Hill, OR, Darrol Whitson and his wife Crissi of Cadiz, KY, Dixie McGee and her husband Chris of Brandenburg, KY and Dana Hidalgo and her husband Robby of Crofton, KY; his brother, Cecil Whitson of Kentucky; and ten grandchildren, Nathan, and Nicholas Whitson; Jordan, and Joshua Pope; Sean Whitson; Mikayla, Elizabeth, Jack, and Grey McGee, and Jaidyn Uchiyama.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Haleys Mill Cemetery at 209 Donna Drive Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
