Two vehicle crashes on I-24 over the summer have resulted in criminal indictments handed down by the latest session of the Trigg County grand jury.
39-year-old Dustin Smith was indicted for First-Degree Wanton Endangerment; DUI; First-Degree Criminal Mischief; Second-Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; and two counts of first-degree Wanton Endangerment stemming from a July 28 crash on I-24.
Trigg County Sheriff’s deputies said Smith was driving a truck the wrong way and collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Russell Thompson at the 60-mile marker westbound.
The tractor-trailer then hit the cable barriers before coming to a stop. Smith reportedly drove 10 miles in the wrong direction before the crash.
27-year-old Adam Sprague of O’Fallon, Missouri was indicted on charges of DUI; Prescription Drug Not in Proper Container; and two counts of first-degree Wanton Endangerment, in the aftermath of an August 14 crash on I-24.
The Trigg County Sheriff’s Office said Sprague was eastbound when his vehicle hit the back of a box truck two miles west of the US 68 exit.
A passenger in Sprague’s SUV was flown to a Nashville hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Christopher Thomas Calhoun was indicted on charges of first-degree wanton endangerment; tampering with physical evidence; and Using Restricted Ammo During a Felony.
The Cadiz Police Department investigation determined on September 14, Calhoun fired a handgun during an altercation on Line Street at the intersection with Hayden Street with people in the immediate area.
34-year-old Austin Allen was indicted on a charge of Theft over $1,000. Cadiz Police said Allen took over $5,000 worth of tobacco products while employed at Twice Daily’s in Cadiz from January to July of this year.
33-year-old Ashley Ball of Cadiz saw a true bill returned on charges of first-degree and second-degree possession of a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges are the result of an August 15 Cadiz Police Department investigation.
45-year-old James Gibson of Elkton was indicted on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; and several traffic offenses that were the result of a July 29 stop by the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office.
And 43-year-old John Brown of Murray was indicted on charges of possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; and having no operator’s license and vehicle insurance stemming from a U.S. Forestry Service investigation.
