The Christian County Colonels continued their strong play down the stretch of the regular season with a 56-55 victory over Calloway County on Saturday, securing their seventh win in eight outings behind 34 points and some late-game heroics from Derrell Bateman.

Jonah Butler scored seven first-quarter points for the Lakers, winners of their last 11, but Christian County countered with ten points from Bateman to lead 14-12.

However, the Colonels went cold in the second frame, and ten points from Eli Finley helped the Lakers outscore Christian County 16-6 for a 28-20 lead at the halftime break.

Bateman and Finley battled bucket for bucket in the third quarter with eight and 11 points, respectively.  Jordan Miles added four for the Colonels, but they trailed by nine with eight minutes left to play.

For the first time in the game, Christian County held the Lakers to single-digit scoring in the fourth quarter, outscoring Calloway 19-9 to storm back for the win.  Trailing by a point with the ball, Bateman capped his performance with the winner with less than a second to play for the Colonels’ fourth-straight victory to end the regular season.

Bateman was the lone Colonel in double figures, helping them to improve to 14-12.

Finley finished with a team-high 25 for Calloway, followed by Butler with 17.
