Scam Detected As Trigg County Country Ham Festival Planning Continues

Local officials have notified appropriate authorities, regarding growing concerns of a scam with vendors of the upcoming Trigg County Country Ham Festival.

Earlier this week, officials with the City of Cadiz and Cadiz on Main began receiving messages, asking if an Erica Williams was a coordinator with the community.

She is not.

Then, on Thursday, both phone calls and social messages to the city increased, regarding someone trying to sell booths. Callers were told the city is not reaching out to sell booths, but instead are allowing people to fill out applications by coming into Cadiz City Hall — especially since there are several Facebook pages claiming to be “On Main Cadiz,” when there is only one official page: “The City of Cadiz On Main Events.”

Thursday’s complaints also consisted of potential vendors being contacted by ladies trying to sell them booths for the Ham Festival, going as far as to direct potential vendors to a website where they would enter credit card numbers have a space secured.

Another vendor also called to inform City Hall officials that “something sketchy was going on,” and it was confirmed that no one from Cadiz is reaching out to vendors regarding payments. Official vendor packets not filled out in City Hall have already been sent out, and every vendor that was approved will be receiving such this week — with all the information needed regarding the weekend party.

One vendor, officials said, captured a screenshot of who exactly was reaching out to people under false pretense.

The website asking for credit cards is not a City of Cadiz creation, and police have been notified.

For any further questions regarding the festival, reach the On Main Director, Heather Armbruster at City Hall: (270) 522-8244.
