In a joint effort between the Hopkinsville-Christian County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Christian County Literacy Council, an inaugural BIG BEE Spelling Contest is scheduled for 6 PM Thursday, August 1, at the Hopkinsville Brewing Company.

A direct response to community interest and following the success of the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee in Hopkinsville over the last two years, this challenge is available for those 21 years and older.

Registration at $20 is open now until July 26, and all proceeds will directly support the Christian County Literacy Council’s ongoing mission to promote literacy in the community.

Its executive director, Francene Gilmer, said the unique night out should “showcase the significance of continuing education in a fun, lighthearted setting,” and CVB Executive Director Amy Rogers said sponsors like the City of Hopkinsville, Walmart Distribution Center, Planters Bank, The Holiday Inn and Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority are already on board.

In order to register, one can stop by the Hopkinsville Visitor Center located at 1730 E. 9th Street, or go to Visit Hopkinsville’s Facebook event page, follow the link provided, hit “Attend,” and pay online.

The Hopkinsville Visitor Center is open 9 AM to 5 PM weekdays and from 10 AM until 2 PM Saturdays.
