Early Saturday morning, two Pennyrile Electric crews — including nine line technicians — bounded for East Tennessee, in order to assist with major power outages caused by the remnants of Hurricane and Tropical Storm Helene.

Specifically, they will be working with the Holston Electric Cooperative in restoring electricity for more than 17,000 customers. The company serves more than 30,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers near Kingsport, Tennessee.

This past May, Holston sent crews to restore power outages created by violent storms during Memorial Day weekend.

Mike Stokes, Pennyrile Electric’s vice president of operations, said this mutual aid scenario was a “very fortunate” situation, glad to return the gesture to a fellow cooperative.
