A Hopkinsville man was charged with assaulting a police officer after a request to check his welfare on Eagle Way Sunday morning.
Hopkinsville Police say they were called to a report of a driver who was passed out behind the wheel and located 22-year-old Humberto Berrios Jr., and while talking to him, they could smell the odor of marijuana.
He reportedly became aggressive and jerked away from them when being handcuffed and kicked the officer several times.
Berrios was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, third-degree assault of a police officer, public intoxication, and resisting arrest.
