The state selected 26 applicants on Monday for medical cannabis cultivation and processor licenses with some to be located in Christian County.
The selection process used a lottery system and was conducted at the Kentucky Lottery Headquarters in Louisville.
The available categories included 10 Tier I cultivator licenses, four Tier II cultivator licenses, two Tier III cultivator licenses, and 10 processor licenses. Applicants within these categories were informed last week whether they were approved for the license lottery. Those selected in the license lottery will have 15 days to pay their license fee to the Office of Medical Cannabis. Once that fee has been paid, the office will issue a license to that business.
As part of his effort to reduce Kentuckians’ reliance on addictive opioids and provide them with relief from severe and chronic pain, Gov. Andy Beshear signed Senate Bill 47 last year which legalizes medical cannabis in the commonwealth effective Jan. 1.
The Office of Medical Cannabis in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services is charged with implementing and administering Kentucky’s Medical Cannabis Program.
Wong Investments and Joseph Serock in Christian County and Slaughter Branch in Hopkins County will receive a Cultivator Tier 1 license.
Meanwhile, Jill’s Dispensary in Christian County and Kaldem Holdings in Muhlenberg County were awarded Processor licenses.
