Christian County Grand Jury Indicts Oak Grove Mother in Child’s Death

An Oak Grove woman was indicted Friday by the Christian County Grand Jury in connection to the 2023 death of her child.

A true bill was returned on Katelynn McKinney on a single count of second degree manslaughter. The charges stem from October 1st when Oak Grove Police reported officers responded to a home on Harbor Drive and found a 4-year old that had drowned in a bathtub.

Following an investigation, McKinney was arrested by Oak Grove Police in September and charged in the death of the child.

The grand jury also indicted Joe Brown, Jr., of Hopkinsville, on charges of first-degree assault and first-degree criminal mischief.

Brown is accused of hitting his stepfather on the head with various objects, such as a vase and a table, during an argument on June 16. According to reports from Christian County Sheriff’s deputies, Brown also caused damage to several items in the home, including punching holes in the walls.

A true bill was returned on John Lynch, of Cadiz, on charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, first-degree strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, intimidating a participant in a legal process, and violation of an EPO/DVO.

According to Hopkinsville Police, the charges stem from September 3 when Lynch entered a home while his wife was sleeping, and he electrocuted her twice, assaulted her, sat on top of her, choked her while threatening to kill her, and then ripped her clothes. When she tried to escape, Lynch allegedly pulled her back in the home by her hair. Police said the woman suffered several injuries including burns from the electrical cord that was used to electrocute her.

According to Hopkinsville Police, the charges against Lynch are in connection to an incident on September 3. Police said Lynch entered a home while his wife was sleeping and electrocuted her twice. He then allegedly assaulted her, sat on top of her, choked her while threatening to kill her, and tore her clothes. When she attempted to escape, police said Lynch dragged her back into the home by her hair. Police stated that the woman sustained several injuries, including burns from the electrical cord used in the electrocution.
