Lahoma was born on September 8, 1925, in KyRock, KY in Edmonson County. She was a proud graduate as a salutatorian from Wenona High School in Wenona, IL in 1944. After graduation, Lahoma chose a career as a wife and mother to support their aspirations.
In 1960, she followed her husband from Lewisport to Hopkinsville, to begin his tenure as principal of the newly built Indian Hills Elementary School. After raising her children to be self-sufficient, she began work as an aide at West Side School, later as a secretary at Attucks Middle School, and retired in 1990 as a secretary at North Drive Middle School.
Lahoma loved to sing and was always thankful that her parents raised her in church singing. She would sing to the grandchildren and her pets, whom she loved dearly. Lahoma was a member of Liberty Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
Lahoma had the greenest of thumbs. Everything she touched grew whether it was human, plant, or animal. She loved to read, cook, and sew and loved watching horse racing. She was tech-savvy and had many pen pals across the globe for many years. She loved to debate politics. Her door was always open, and she was a haven for so many in her family.
There was certainly a reunion as Lahoma was greeted in Heaven by her Lord and Savior, family, and cherished friends. Finally, after asking daily, the house her daddy was building for her is finished. Happy Homecoming!!
