Fred Smith, 82, of Hopkinsville

Fred M. Smith, 82, of Hopkinsville, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Tennova Medical Center, Clarksville, TN, of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Lamb Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Bufford officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with full military honors.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the funeral home.

A native of Clayton, LA, he was born March 26, 1942, the son of the late Winfred Wilburn Smith and the late Pearl (Whitten) Smith.

Freddie retired from the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam War and received two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, an Air Medal, a Bronze Star, a National Defense Service Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of The Retired Enlisted Association, Uniformed Services, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Smith; and his sisters, Dorothy Martin and Mary Ann Fairbanks.

Survivors include his daughters, Cynthia (Ron) Brown, Leavenworth, KS, Penny (Larry) Russell and Rebecca Hancock, both of Hopkinsville, KY; his brother, James A. Smith, Ferriday, LA; his sisters, Hazel Minor, Ferriday, LA, Vinajo Delhoste, Jonesville, LA, Melba Mooreland, Monterey, LA, Linda Manley, Clayton, LA, and Brenda Moffett, Oakridge, LA; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
