A downed TVA power line resulted in thousands of Pennyrile Electric customers waking up to no power Friday morning, on one of the coldest mornings of the winter. The power went out not long after 6am.

Officials with Pennyrile Electric say the downed line interrupted the feed into Trigg County and affected multiple substations, including the main Cadiz substation.

Shortly after 8am, Pennyrile officials stated that TVA had located where the transmission line was down and was working to get it back up and going. Power returned to many residents of the area between 930am and 10am Friday morning.

By 10:30am, power had been restored to more than 7,600 Pennyrile Electric members since the start of the outage. As TVA continued working to repair a 161 kV transmission line, power was still off to the Pee Dee and Canton substations, which affects 4,631 Pennyrile members.

The downed line also knocked out power to the WKDZ/WHVO studios, which also suffered a generator failure, knocking the stations off the air.
