James Ray Owens, 77, of Cadiz

Funeral services for 77-year-old James Ray Owens, of Cadiz, will be Monday at 1 PM at Goodwin Funeral Home.

Burial with military honors will follow in Lawrence Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday after 4 PM.

Survivors include:
Two sons, Wesley Owens (Stacy), of New Haven, and Jason Owens, of Kirkmansville;
Three grandsons, Tyler Owens (Kate), Brandon Owens, and James Owens;
A great grandson, Brayson Owens;
And a sister, Debbie Holder, of Cadiz.

He died at 11:50 AM, Thursday, March 13, 2025, at his Cadiz home.

He was born May 27, 1947, in Murray, the son of late James Benjamin Owens and Oveller Mae George Owens.

He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where his bravery and dedication to his country were recognized with the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V.”

After his honorable discharge from the military, he served as a correctional officer with the Kentucky State Penitentiary, retiring with the rank of Captain.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Charlene Freeman and Marie Alexander.
