Annexation is still an ongoing discussion for the City of Cadiz.
That’s according to Chairman Tom Lawson, who during Tuesday night’s Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission meeting noted and confirmed that a pathway yet remains for adding expansion of the Cadiz RV Park along I-24 to the city’s portfolio.
And this path is now more clearly defined.
Canceling the previous annexation hearing last month, Lawson added, might not have been necessary.
As soon as a referral comes from the Cadiz City Council, Lawson said a new hearing will be set, and all parties will confer again to make a decision.
Lawson, as well as long-time Commissioner and former District Judge Chappell Wilson, agreed that there is precedent of action in city annexation.
Wilson said it would be appropriate for the Planning Commission to send a letter of request to consider the annexation issue, in order to clarify the course of action. Lawson agreed, and noted that once this situation is rectified, a full dialogue with appropriate legal language needs to be fully chiseled for the next generation of leadership.
In other news:
— The Cadiz City Council can soon expect a drafted letter, co-signed by both the Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Adjustments, asking the mayor and his legislative body to review, and either approve or deny, recommended addendum to the fees schedule detailing plat costs and other services.
— Commissioner Rick Clements said he would be interested in being the group’s treasurer, but wouldn’t assume the position until a full personal review of the organization’s finances at least two years in the rear.
— The possibility of internships with the Planning Commission are still a hot, hot subject for the group. Clements is asking for a major job description and list of duties be created, before he and/or any others with the commission contact Murray State University, or any other educational body, for potential partnerships.
Among the many pliable tasks for a young, aspiring city planner and grant writer…tasks like research and clerking…Lawson noted the Cadiz Comprehensive Plan will be up for review in 2026. And it will be a massive undertaking.
An intern, Wilson said, could do a staff report.
— In the stead of Tim Futrell Holdings, LLC, professional surveyor Jonathan Payne brought forth a request inside of a minor subdivision, asking the commission to review and accept the combining of six smaller lots inside of Barkley Shores, to create two more marketable lots. Both, Payne said, are located near Cumberland Drive, with easement and road frontage access on both sides. Since this request didn’t violate subdivision ordinances set for the county, his ask was accepted.
